Grenade Hall Forest and Signal Station

Grenade Hall is a restored 1819 signal station. Signal stations are towers erected at strategic points that were used before the advent of the telephone to relay messages. Messages sent from Grenade Hall could reach Bridgetown within minutes. Sighting of ships were communicated by an elaborate system of flags, for instance.

A pathway serpentines Grenade Hall Forest allowing visitors to explore the diversity of trees and plants, with signage explaining their origins and medicinal properties. The resident troupe of free-range Barbados Green Monkeys is often at large foraging in this forest when they are not at the Barbados Wildlife Reserve.
